Resources for Families

At Trees Indiana, we believe that families play a vital role in fostering a love for nature and building a greener, healthier future. That’s why we offer engaging, hands-on activities designed to connect families with the outdoors, promote environmental stewardship, and create lasting memories together. Whether you’re exploring your own backyard, visiting a local park, or taking a walk in the woods, our programs provide safe and exciting opportunities for experiential learning in both school settings and home-based education.

Spending time outdoors sparks creativity, curiosity, and a deeper connection to the environment. It also enhances academic performance, boosts overall health, and inspires a lifelong love of nature. And when outdoor adventures aren’t possible, we offer indoor activities to keep the learning going!

Outdoor Classroom

The AEP Nature Explore Classroom at Trees Indiana is a special outdoor learning space designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and hands-on exploration. This unique setting allows children and families to connect with nature through interactive play, discovery-based learning, and structured activities led by experienced educators. From climbing and building to storytelling and art, the classroom provides endless opportunities for kids to engage with the natural world in meaningful ways.

Adjacent to the classroom, our Butterfly Garden serves as a vibrant sanctuary for pollinators, offering a beautiful space to observe butterflies, bees, and other essential insects up close. Families and students can learn about the importance of native plants, the role of pollinators in our ecosystem, and how to create their own pollinator-friendly gardens at home.

Together, these spaces provide a rich outdoor experience where children can learn, play, and develop a lifelong appreciation for nature. Whether you’re visiting for a special event, a school field trip, or a family outing, the AEP Nature Explore Classroom and Butterfly Garden offer an unforgettable way to explore Indiana’s natural world.

Tree Planting

Be part of the effort to create a more equitable and inclusive urban forest through our Forest the Fort program. Families can join in planting trees, growing community green spaces, and improving access to nature for everyone. Our initiatives include purposeful neighborhood tree plantings and tree giveaways, making it easier for families to bring trees to their own backyards. Together, we can grow a canopy that benefits every corner of the community, ensuring cleaner air, cooler streets, and a healthier environment for all.
