Trees are sanctuaries.
Whoever knows how to listen
to them, can learn the truth.

Mission Statement.
Youth Greening Communities.
Trees Indiana’s mission is to inspire and educate Indiana’s youth to become stewards who plant, protect and maintain their community trees. Research shows today’s youth spend 40.5 hours in front of a screen each week. Trees Indiana seeks to engage youth in nature as they plan and care for trees in their neighborhood.

Why Urban Forestry?
  1. The act of planting a tree is a positive outlet that gives a personal sense of accomplishment.

  2. Planting and caring for trees builds bridges of cooperation amongst neighbors of all ages.

  3. Tree-lined streets are inviting and beautiful.

  4. Urban forests provide habitat for squirrels, birds and wildlife.

  5. Trees act as giant air conditioners as they remove carbon from the air and release oxygen and moisture.

  6. Trees provide shade and can reduce air-conditioning costs 10-30 percent.

  7. Urban forests reduce storm water run-off by allowing the water to slowly soak into the ground or be evaporated.

  8. Trees affect regional climates by releasing unused water back into the atmosphere thus aiding in cooling.
Program Goals

  1. To educate Indiana’s youth about the importance of a healthy community and the benefits trees offer through ongoing environmental education programs.

  2. To increase the Hoosier tree canopy nurtured by youth.
